For the past few months we’ve been mentoring an incredible young man, Jake Tucker. Jake is a senior at the Academic Magnet High School in Charleston. He came to us with an idea for his senior thesis. We’ve helped him fulfill part of his vision. This weekend, Jake launches his project into the community in a big way with a food truck rodeo and music event.
For a good cause
Jake Tucker, a senior at Charleston’s Academic Magnet High School has organized the Johns Island Music Festival and Food Truck Hoedown. The event which takes place Saturday, September 29th, from 2-9 p.m. at All Season’s Mulch, 1820 River Road, Johns Island, SC (behind the CVS on Maybank Highway at River Road) will donate proceeds to all the non-profits who are featured at One Goal One Cause’s event. Suggested donations are $5 per person. There is no charge for children.
The public is invited to attend and enjoy music performed by Blue Grass Band, Flat City, and Gracious Day.
Sponsors of the event are B.W.I., WEZL, River Bank Vet Clinic, All Seasons Mulch, New Moon Pizzeria and Charleston PR & Design, LLC.
Food trucks on site will be Pot Kettle Black, Refuelers, Cast Iron, Charleston Festival Foods Foodie Truck and Dulce.
Tucker is using the event to promote awareness of One Goal One Cause which he created as part of the requirements every Academic Magnet High School Senior must meet. The senior thesis project Tucker designed is one that will demonstrate the effectiveness of social media as a tool of awareness for nonprofits. The website for One Goal One Cause features background information on Charleston non-profits as well as their social media feeds and links to each organization’s website.
Tucker said about his project, “At One Goal One Cause, it is our hope that something seen on this site will inspire an epidemic of caring in our community and catapult people to act and get involved to help those in need right here in our own neighborhoods.”
